Rules and Regulations

1. The Elaine and Andrew Daniluk Florida Young Artists International Piano Competition is open to contestants ages 4-18 of all nationalities and countries. Participants compete in categories based on their age and will be judged based solely on their recordings for the pre-screening and semifinal round, and live performance via zoom if selected as a finalist.

2.  The competition has 3 stages.  The deadline to apply is April 14th 11:59pm US-EST.  The pre-screening results will be notified by email on the evening of April 15th, 2024.  Those who advance to the semifinal round will use the same recording that it was submitted for the pre-screening. No resubmission is necessary and there will be no extra charge for the semifinal round.  The chosen repertoire will be the same for the Final round.  The results from the semifinal round will be notified by email on April 17th, 2024 and the finalists will be given their scheduled time for the Final Round.

3. The Final Round will take place on Saturday April 20th, 2024 from 9am to 1:30pm US-EST and the Winners' Concert will be pre-recorded, and livestreamed in May. The pieces performed for the final round must be the same pieces that were submitted on the application video.

 

4. All applicants must submit a video recording uploaded to YouTube. The video must contain the full repertoire.  No editing is allowed but the pieces can be recorded in different takes. One or more youtube links can be submitted combining the required repertoire for each corresponding category. All works must be performed by memory.

 Note: The video must clearly show the profile, hands and feet of the contestant. Please dress appropriately since if you are selected as a winner, the video will be livestreamed on the Winner's Concert.

5. Applicants are also required to submit a short biography, a headshot, and proof of age by sending one of the following:

  • Birth certificate

  • Driver’s license or State ID

  • Passport

All Applications will be considered INCOMPLETE until these documents have been submitted.

6. Repertoire: Free choice of repertoire from different Periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic and Contemporary). Categories A, B, C and D are required 2 contrasting pieces from different periods. Category E must perform 3 pieces.  

For the Piano Concerto Division,  the performance could be recorded solo, with piano accompaniment or with orchestra.

7. The total duration of the video recording is limited. Individual movements of Sonatas and multimovement works are acceptable. Transcriptions by major composers are also acceptable. The age categories and time limit are as follow:

Piano Solo:

Category A: 4-6 (up to 6 minutes)

Category B: 7-9 (up to 8 minutes)

Category C: 10-12 (up to 10 minutes)

Category D: 13-15 (Up to 12 minutes)

Category E: 16-18 (Up to 15 minutes)

College Category: 19-25 (Up to 20 minutes)

 

Piano Concerto (One or more movements)

Category A: 4-8 (Up to 10 minutes)

Category B: 9-13 (Up to 15 minutes)

Category C: 14-18 (Up to 15 minutes)

College Category: 19-25 (Up to 20 minutes)

8. It is preferable that the Concerto be chosen from the following composers: (Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and Grieg).  However, due to multiple requests, we are allowing all those who would like to apply to the concerto division category to enter with any concerto of the standard repertoire.  In light of this, performance with orchestra of concerti not included in the aforementioned group of composers will be subject to approval by the conductor and the discretion of the competition organizers.

9. When you submit the Application Form to floridayoungartistsipc@gmail.com with the headline: "application 2024 and your name next to it." Please include your name, the name of the pieces, composers' names and duration. 

YouTube Videos must include in the description: your name, the name of the piece, composer’s name, your age and category and the duration of each piece. Also, videos must be available for watching online whether as Public or Unlisted.

10. If the duration of the submitted Video exceeds the time limits, as specified in the rules, the jury will only evaluate up to the time limit specified for each category.

11. By participating in the competition, competitors agree to disown the right for any material (financial) remuneration regarding eventual publication and distribution of music video recordings and publications.

The Jury is comprised by well renowned performing artists and pedagogues. All Jury decisions are final and irrevocable.

 12. All First, Second and Third Prize Winners will receive a monetary award. Honorable Mentions will receive a diploma.  Finalists and Semifinalists will receive a certificate upon request. Teachers, (also upon request) will receive a certificate.  Winners of the competition in previous years are allowed to compete again.

13.  Application fee is $100 for solo and $125 for concerto.  If the contestant applies for both (solo and concerto categories) the fee is reduced to $100 per category.
